UniQ Voice

September/October Issue
“In this issue, we set out to find passionate individuals who have goals that they conquer every day of the year.”

Growing up, after matric, I did what teenagers do 😊, and I ended up not doing well in tertiary and opted for job hunting. I never had a list of things that I wanted to achieve all I knew is that I am capable, and I am intelligent. Each year, I was figuring out – what is my passion, I then found myself venturing into Journalism where I taught myself everything. I then realized that it takes a good writer to be a good journalist.

I took it upon my shoulders to attend every course and workshops around Journalism to up-skill myself. Every learning opportunity, left with more knowledge. I must note that, at that point our career guidance was promoting traditional careers such as becoming a public servant or engineer, you hardly heard of other interesting careers. Some careers were actually treated as a hobby or entertainment.

In this issue, we set out to find passionate individuals who have goals that they conquer every day of the year. From those who took makeup as a career to those who heal nations through their dance moves. Certified fitness coach Clive Msomi talks about how he went through a knee injury ordeal and how to avoid it in future, while the internationally known advocate for human rights in the Health Sector, Nonhlanhla Mkhize gives us a glimpse of who she is and what she does.

You’ll also find some insights on bisexuality, deafness and heritage as we celebrate, commemorate and educate under these themes as the main focus of this issue.

So, with that, read on and I hope when you put this copy down, you’ll feel inspired to conquer your goals. Cheers!
